Nevet Yitzhak

Nevet Yitzhak’ works utilizes objects and visual patterns taken from the rich world of Islamic culture, both traditional and modern. In her three-part video installation War Craft (Where the Wild Things Are) the artist animates modern Afghan war rugs that were produced during and after the first war in Afghanistan. These artifacts are traditional yet totally contemporary in spirit describe a perpetual military struggle and violence. Although the Israeli artist here uses a distancing mechanism, seeking materials in ‘far off lands’, an piercing analogy can be made to the place where she comes from, which also ‘boasts’ an ancient history of violence and turmoil.
